Trueshan stays on course for the Goodwood Cup after his fantastic weight-carrying triumph in the Northumberland Plate.

The Alan King-trained gelding bore a massive 10st 8lb for the remaining handicap on Newcastle’s all-weather surface area on Saturday, with his trainer choosing to leg-up normal pilot Hollie Doyle instead of reducing the problem using the use of a pupil.

The market clearly did not consider Trueshan to be unable of what was a tall order as he began as the 3-1 favourite and that was proven right, as the hugely-popular six-year-old dominated by half a size and also brought his winning touch as much as five unbeaten runs.

Seen just when this period before Newcastle, King had made entries for his steady star in the early part of the campaign and at Royal Ascot, but discovered problems to be as well quick and thus turned to the artificial surface area of the Northumberland Plate.

” We were totally delighted as well as stunned as well,” stated the Barbury Castle trainer on Sunday.

” It was a huge ask yet we just needed to get a run into him, it was a wonderful performance.

” It’s extremely unusual on the Apartment for steeds to carry this amount of weight off this rating however I’d no other option, I had to run him somewhere. At least with Newcastle, we knew we can get there and also find the ideal ground.

” He’s wonderful, he’s 100 per cent today which is the main thing. Onwards as well as upwards hopefully.”

The Goodwood Cup, a Team One race Trueshan won in 2021, continues to be on the agenda, though some convenience in the ground will be important if he is to bid to retain his title.

” We’re educating him for Goodwood, (however) as all of us keep stating, it relies on what the English climate does,” King stated.

A minimum of currently he’s had a run, I can leave him alone for a couple of weeks and afterwards construct him back up in the direction of the end of July. It’s taken a little pressure off in that respect.”
